Your silence is overstretched Dana Awartani

Dana Awartani, artist, and Dr. Anna Lovecchio, Curator, NTU Centre for Contemporary Art Singapore, delve into Awartani’s long-standing fascination with Arab poetry and her enrapturing encounter with the Arab poetesses of far-off times. A line from a 9th century poem by Aasiya Al-Baghadadiyya forms the title of a conversation which tackles the expression of women’s desire, the gendering of space, the value of manual crafts, and the symbolism of geometric patterns. These sources of inspiration for Listen to my words, Awartani’s project for st_age, progressively unravel in a dialogue punctuated by reflections on the current status and role of Arab women in contemporary society.
