This conversation between artist Seba Calfuqueo and TBA21 assistant curator Marina Avia Estrada took place in the Casa Árabe of Córdoba, Spain, on June 5, 2022. It was part of “Sweet Encounters: Conversations with artists and curators,” an event which functioned as a space of discussion and contextualization for the artists that participated on “Pasaje del agua | The Journeying Stream,” a three-day program of performances, meditation, and music curated by Sofia Lemos and Daniela Zyman in Córdoba.
Departing from Calfuqueo’s performance Ko ta mapungey ka (Water is also territory), which was presented at the Centro de Creación Contemporánea de Andalucía C3A in Córdoba on June 3, 2022 (the recording of the performance is available on TBA21 on st_age), the conversation deals with the water crisis in Chile, as well as the collusion of the state and private extractivist companies, and relates to the artist’s own practice by looking into their Mapuche heritage and non-binary identity.
