This Research Cluster brings together a series of materials from Ocean-Archive.org, TBA21–Academy’s digital platform. The compilation of materials departs from the exhibition “Wu Tsang: Of Whales” at the Museo Nacional Thyssen Bornemisza, Madrid, and the various subtexts the show entails such colonial histories, industrial sea practices, or extractivism—with a special focus on deep sea mining by the artist collective Inhabitants. Sound equally takes a central presence, with whale sounds and anthropogenic noise disturbances extracted from Sounds Too Many, a lecture performance by Francesca Thyssen-Bornemisza, and hydrophone audio pieces by artist Jana Winderen.
