‘O.C.E.A.N.I.C.A. (Occasions Creating Ecologically Attuned Narratives in Collective Action)’ Isabel Lewis

This research cluster comprises a selection of references in relation to some of the main topics that have fed the artist’s research process departing from the Cordobese context: Sufism, or the internal dimension and spiritual aspect of Islam, through the figure of Andalusian Sufi mystic, philosopher, poet, and traveler Ibn Arabi (1165–1240); Astarté, the Phoenician assimilation of the Mesopotamic goddess Ashtart, whose cult was introduced in the Iberian Peninsula by the actual Phoenicians; flamenco, the musical genre developed by the gypsy community in Southern Spain, dating back to the 17th century; and of course, the Guadalquivir River, the fluvial axis of the Cordoba.
