In this conversation Singaporean artist Sim Chi Yin joins Soledad Gutiérrez to discuss the research and process behind The Mountain that Hid (2022), the two-channel film presented on TBA21 on st_age, drawn from the larger project “One Day We’ll Understand.” The conversation unfolds the implications, issues, and complexities of working with archival material, as well as with living memory, and opens a dialogue on how to give voice to silenced histories, including the possibilities of historical speculation for bringing together the universal and the specific.
