‘Juan López, cantor a la sequía’ (Juan López, singer to the drought), 2020 Patricia Domínguez

This video, part of La balada de las sirenas secas (The Ballad of the Dry Mermaids) (2020), is a call to the cultural heritage of the Petorca region through the voice of a canto a lo divino (a rural song to the divine), and Juan López, who lives in Palquico, one of the areas of Chile deeply affected by the lack of water due to privatization. Juan lives surrounded by the skeletons of hundreds of animals that died because of drought. He has transformed the traditional song to the divine into one to the drought, and to the anxiety that faces the farmers in the region.
