Habla la Madre Courtney Desiree Morris

This conversation departs from the desire to create alternative ways of dealing with the profound structural inequalities under which we live. It is an invitation to listen to the voices of the many mothers who live under constant fear of state violence as well those of the animals we share the planet with and who suffer under the violence of human domination. It is a call for a more reciprocal and responsible relationship with all living things and a will to expose our souls to other ways of sensing/seeing the world around us, a new way of generating knowledge together.

The title is taken from a performance by Afro-Cuban artist Maria Magdalena Campos-Pons, Habla Lamadre (link available in Morris’ research cluster), dedicated to Yemaya and in many ways connected with the concerns raised through Morris’ artistic practice. Access the audio file HERE.
