From Ocean Language to River-speak Isabel Lewis

In this conversation, artist Isabel Lewis joins TBA21–Academy curator Sofia Lemos at the patio of the Archaeological Museum of Cordoba, to discuss the process behind Urban Flourishing, the roaming performance Lewis presented at this very location on June 4, 2022, as a continuation of her previous performative exhibition and pedagogical project O.C.E.A.N.I.C.A. (Occasions Creating Ecologically Attuned Narratives in Collective Action) (2021). Developed in relation to the Guadalquivir river, this variation is an invitation to build a vocabulary which connects fluvial lands to our everyday life. Ancient artifacts connected to this Andalusian river become a point of departure to uncover another experience of city-time; Urban Flourishing incorporates dance, performance, and active listening as a hybrid practice for the body that suggests alternative modes of engagement with urban environments.
