This research cluster features seminal scholarly contributions that probe questions around, examine, and resist modalities of power and control, all of which inform and structure the different components and concerns present in Alaa Mansour’s video-based work The Mad Man’s Laughter. These documents give attention to and engage with decolonial thinking and postcolonial theory, queer and feminist methodologies, as well as visual and critical surveillance studies to provide knowledges around—and build oppositional imaginaries to—the technologies of surveillance and states of (in)security that permeate our everyday lives.
