A Porous Imagination: The Ocean and the Unconscious Beatriz Santiago Muñoz

In this conversation artist Beatriz Santiago Muñoz joins curator María Montero Sierra, head of program at TBA21–Academy, to discuss the research and process behind the short film Pájaro, cómeme (2022). Their dialogue focuses on the artist’s recent work on the sensorial unconscious of anti-colonial movements, the formal experimentation with language and narrative departing from feminist practices, as well as the incorporation of the everyday poetic, and how these elements have been translated to her film work for TBA21 on st_age. The meaning of the aquatic on the decolonization process, but also the traditional image of the Ocean and our relationship with it are central to this discussion, which also explores possibilities on how to challenge our preconceived forms of seeing and imagining by “thinking from the place.”
