Zhenxiang Zhao

Zhenxiang Zhao Artist

Zhenxiang’s name means “spread wings and fly” in Chinese. Also known as Colibrí (Hummingbird). According to the Mexican Aztec riddle, his previous life is that of the hummingbird warrior. As the Colibrí symbolizes the Messenger of Gods, his work explores the cross-cultural exchange and hybrid identities, seeking a bridge between contemporary western thought and traditional eastern culture. Zhenxiang often uses his own body as a medium of expression, and discourse, becoming both the subject and object of his works.  As a robotic shaman, he is also interested in movements in different contexts. He creates and imagines with local collectives and communities the new harmony between humans and the “ten thousand things” (all things).
