Juan Canela Journalist
An independent curator and writer, Canela is Artistic Director of ZsONAMACO, Mexico City, and Associate Curator of Matadero Madrid’s Center for Artists in Residence (2020–2021). He co-founded BAR project in Barcelona in 2012, was the Research and Symposium Associate for osloBIENNALEN First Edition (2019–2024), and a member of the Programme Committee of Hangar, Barcelona (2016–19). He has curated projects at museums and institutions such as Museo de Arte Moderno de Medellín; CA2M Centro de Arte Dos de Mayo, Móstoles; Centro Cultural de España, Santo Domingo; Fundación Cerezales, León; Tabakalera, San Sebastián; CRAC Alsace, Altkirch; SOMA México, Mexico City; Fundació Miró, Barcelona; and La Ene, Buenos Aires. He has given lectures and workshops at Palais de Tokyo, Paris; Artpace, San Antonio; De Appel, Amsterdam; FLORA ars+natura, Bogota; Khalil Sakakini Cultural Center, Ramallah; Bisagra, Lima; Instituto Di Tella, Buenos Aires; and La Casa Encendida, Madrid. He regularly writes for art magazines such as A*Desk, Babelia, Terremoto, and Mousse.
